ABOUT

Susan is a self-taught visual artist. The subject of her art is mainly focused on nature. Morning coffee in the garden watching its inhabitants provide her with daily inspiration. Her medium of choice is paper collage although she explores mixed media, assemblage, and glass mosaic

She approaches each collage piece by starting with a layer of paint and successive layers of paper. Fiber paste, ink, charcoal and/or markers are sometimes added until the desired look is achieved. She allows the piece to let her know when it is complete. The papers used are hand painted on junk mail or collected from magazines, old books, maps, tea bag tags, fortune cookies, sheet music or just about any other paper that catches her eye. Susan finds herself picking up pieces of paper, labels, tags, receipts wherever she goes. Her favorites are vintage letters or postage stamps.  The history they carry with them is special.

Susan’s past careers have all included an artful element. She has designed new product lines and trade show displays for various companies as well as owning a glass blowing studio with her husband. Her lifelong creative journey evolved into a determination to pursue art fulltime.

Her work has been juried into shows at Schack Art Center, Fogue Gallery, and Parklane Gallery as well as, various events with the Woodinville Art Alliance and the Northwest Collage Society.  Publications have included Cloth, Paper, Scissors "Pages" and Somerset Studios "Apprentice" magazines.

Susan lives in Washington state with  husband Ted and Bichon Jack.
